Out of the Aethers Premieres Today
Out of the Aethers launches this week, exclusively on LucinaPress.com. The book is made up of two stories: Anchor, a short story, and Traveler, a full novel. Together they form a cohesive whole, a grand space adventure—a literary descendant of the wonderful space operas penned by Edmond Hamilton and E. E. “Doc” Smith.
The book’s cover artwork is hand-painted and reminiscent of the work of Earle K. Bergey. The frontispiece is cohesive with the pen and ink interior illustrations of the science fiction pulp magazines of the 1930s and 40s. The book’s dust jacket design is inspired by the pictorial dust jackets on the Chelsea House novels from the 1930s. Chelsea House was the novel publishing arm of Street & Smith, creating novels from their most popular magazine serials by their best authors like Max Brand and Johnston McCulley.
The Time Keepers
The name Time Keeper is a pun, referring to a watch in the sense of both a timepiece and a watchman. And the Time Keepers are watchmen, guarding the time roads from interference by their nemeses, the Agaereon Time Pirates. The Time Keepers consider their mission a sacred one, and their race was created to do just that.
Mytah is an unusual Time Keeper as, unlike the rest of his people, he doesn’t share their genetic memories. He and his partner, Phylesse are young time agents, just out of school. On their first assignment, while Phylesse is on Earth of the past, Mytah is kidnapped by the Agaereons. The connection between the pair is snapped, and without her anchor, who provides a telepathic reference point, Phylesse is cast adrift in time and gains amnesia, believing her cover identity real. Meanwhile, Mytah is pulled into an adventure on a world that has sapped his powers. How can he return and save Phylesse when he is trapped in a human body?
